How to use it

01

Drop the HEIC file in

Drag it into the area above or click to choose. Browsers cannot preview HEIC, so at first you only see the file's details.

02

Pick a format and quality

JPG, PNG or WebP. Quality 92 is close to the iPhone's own export quality. Tick the box if you want to keep the EXIF data.

03

Convert and download

The result is full resolution and unwatermarked. To move on to another file press “Replace” — the picker opens straight away.

What HEIC is, and why it will not open

Apple's default format

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) has been the iPhone's default photo format since iOS 11. It holds the same visual quality in roughly half the space of a JPG — an excellent trade for your phone's storage.

Barely supported outside Apple

Windows Photos, most websites, many corporate upload forms and a fair share of Android apps cannot open a HEIC file. The result is familiar: you double-click, and it says the file cannot be opened.

Which format should I convert to

JPG

The default choice

Every device, every site, every form accepts it. If you are not sure, pick this.

PNG

A lossless copy

No re-compression at all. The file comes out noticeably larger.

WebP

Websites

Smaller than JPG, and every modern browser opens it.

Orientation, and fixing it at the source

The orientation gets corrected

iPhone photos are often stored landscape with a “display this rotated 90°” note in the metadata. Converters that ignore that note hand you a sideways photo — it is the single most common complaint.

This tool bakes the orientation into the picture before converting. The output looks the way it does on your phone.

Set the iPhone to shoot JPG instead

If you would rather fix the source than convert every time: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. Photos taken after that are JPGs. They take more space, but the compatibility problem is over.

Common questions

What happens to a Live Photo?

The moving part lives in a separate video file; the HEIC holds only the still frame. What you get out of the conversion is that still frame.

Is there any quality loss?

HEIC is already a lossy format, and so is JPG. At quality 92 the difference is invisible. If you want no loss at all, pick PNG — the file grows, but nothing is re-compressed.

My photo is still sideways

This tool applies the orientation; if it still looks sideways, the orientation data in the source file is inconsistent. Try running it through Image Converter once more.

What happens if I keep the EXIF data?

The location, device model and capture date stay in the output. If you are going to share the photo, leave it off — or run the result through Remove EXIF Data afterwards.
