Remove the AI metadata

See the Content Credentials, the AI source tag and the prompt hidden in your image — what Instagram reads before it adds “AI info” — then strip them. The picture is never re-compressed.

What is inside the file

How to use it

01

Drop the image in

Drag it into the area above or click to choose. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and AVIF all work.

02

See what gives it away

The tool lists what the file actually holds — Content Credentials, the AI source tag, tool names, the prompt — and marks in red what platforms read.

03

Download the clean copy

On JPG, PNG and WebP the cleaning is lossless: the picture is not re-compressed, only the metadata is taken out.

What Instagram actually reads

Content Credentials (C2PA)

A signed record inside the file: which app made it and what was done to it. ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, Photoshop's Generative Fill, Google and Microsoft tools write it automatically. Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn look for it on upload.

The IPTC “digital source type”

A single line in the XMP block. trainedAlgorithmicMedia means fully AI-generated; compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia means a real photo edited with AI. Either one is enough for the “AI info” label.

Risk

Your prompt travels with it

Stable Diffusion, ComfyUI and NovelAI write the full prompt, the seed, the model and the whole workflow into the PNG. Share the file and you share all of it.

What it cannot do

Careful

Invisible watermarks stay

Google's SynthID and similar watermarks are woven into the pixels, not the metadata. No metadata tool removes them, and this one does not pretend to.

Edits made inside the app

If you use Meta AI or an AI filter inside Instagram itself, the label comes from the app, not the file. Neither does it change anything if you tick the “AI label” switch yourself.

Disclosure rules still apply

Platforms ask you to label realistic AI-made video and audio, and ads have their own rules. Removing metadata cleans a file; it does not change those rules.

Worth knowing

Real photos get labelled too

Removing one stray person with Generative Fill, or a background with an AI remover, writes the same tag as a fully generated image. That is the most common reason a genuine photo ends up marked “AI info”.

Location and camera go as well

The clean copy carries no EXIF either: GPS, device and date are removed with the rest. Only the orientation is kept, so a portrait photo does not turn sideways.

HDR photos become standard

Newer phones attach an HDR gain map after the picture, and it can carry its own provenance. It is removed with the metadata; the photo itself looks the same on a normal screen.

Common questions

Will this remove the AI label on Instagram?

When the label comes from the file's metadata — the most common case — the clean copy no longer carries that signal. It cannot touch a label that comes from an invisible watermark, an in-app edit or your own disclosure. Test it on a private or close-friends post first.

My photo is real — why was it labelled?

Usually because an editing tool wrote the tag: Photoshop's Generative Fill or Remove tool, Canva's background remover, Samsung's or Google's AI photo editors. Drop the file here and you will see exactly which line triggered it.

Does it lower the quality?

No on JPG, PNG and WebP: the image data is copied byte for byte. HEIC and AVIF cannot be cleaned that way, so they are redrawn and saved as a high-quality JPG.

Does a screenshot do the same thing?

A screenshot also drops the metadata, but it re-compresses the picture, lowers the resolution and catches whatever is on screen. This tool keeps the original pixels.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Reading and cleaning both happen in your browser; the file never leaves your device.
